ELANTXOBE AND ITS TURNTABLE FOR BUSES

The fishing village of Elantxobe in Biscay is very picturesque. Here are a couple of pictures of village and harbour to start with.
The village is a bit awkwardly situated for traffic. The harbour is below, of course, but a large part of the village is high on a mountain slope. There are some narrow and steep paths running in between the two parts. They're more like stairs, really. The only street between Elantxobe-harbour and Elantxobe-high is much too steep and also too narrow to be of any use to real car traffic. Anyway, the street has been declared closed to cars by a prudent municipal council.
In Elantxobe-high there is a strange circular little place. What's that all about then, you ask yourself.
Now then, this is the turntable for the bus. Not unlike every self-respecting engine shed used to have a turntable to turn the locomotives in the right direction, Elantxobe uses the same principle to allow the bus, after entering the village, to leave it again. All other alleyways in the village are much too small for the bus, and to make the bus turn in this small square is also going to be a bit messy.
So the bus arrives, passengers get off, new passengers get on, and... See for yourself.
